Danny G as special guest referee? Why Kilkenny’s unhinged influencer fight night badly needs him

An empty boxing ring under arena lights

This is a light-hearted wishlist piece. Nothing described below has been announced, offered or agreed by Danny G, by Unhinged Promotions or by The Hub Kilkenny. It is our idea, and we think it is a very good one.

Kilkenny is about to host one of the strangest nights in the city’s long history of hosting strange nights. On Saturday 7 November, the influencer boxing outfit Unhinged Promotions brings its third show, billed as Unhinged 003, to The Hub at Cillín Hill on the Dublin Road. Chart-topping drill rapper Russ Millions headlines against Kirky, and the card underneath runs to a dozen more bouts between creators, streamers and TikTok personalities whose names would baffle most of the county’s hurling followers.

So here is our modest proposal. If any event in Ireland this winter was crying out for a celebrity special guest referee, or at least a cameo in the promo videos, it is this one. And the man for the job is Danny G.

Who is Danny G?

For the uninitiated, Danny G is an internet personality from the Birmingham area whose clips, many of them filmed mid-rant with a gaming headset on and a Smethwick postcode in the background, have been chopped up, captioned and reshared across TikTok and YouTube many times over. He is not, as far as we can tell, a boxer, a referee or a licensed official of any kind. That is precisely the point.

He also has history with this crowd. Online clips titled around a call-out between Danny G and HSTikkyTokky, the London creator behind Unhinged Promotions, have racked up views in the past. We cannot say whether that rivalry ever went beyond the internet, so treat it as background colour rather than a plot point. But a man who once traded words with the promoter turning up in the middle of the ring with a whistle? You could not script it better. Well, we just did.

Why Unhinged and The Hub need this

Unhinged does not do subtle. When it unveiled Russ Millions as its headliner in October, the announcement was a social video that, according to AllHipHop, simply challenged “any rapper, any influencer” to step up, with a question mark where the opponent’s name should have been. The whole night is built for phones: the promoter says the show will be streamed free on Kick, Twitch, YouTube, X and TikTok via HSTikkyTokky’s accounts, which means the real audience is millions of people scrolling, not the few thousand in the venue.

The card itself reads like a group chat that got out of hand. Alongside the main event and a co-main of Shangel against License, there are bouts billed as Razztok v Linx, Swarmz v A2 Anti, MB v King of Marbs, Gym Unc v Money Micky and, our personal favourite, Shadow Boxer v Jack Flash. Kilkenny People, which first flagged the show for local readers, described the city as an unexpected venue for a UK influencer showdown, and it is hard to argue.

The Hub, for its part, is better known as one of the big live music rooms in the south-east, with a calendar this winter that includes The High Kings on 28 December, Gavin James on 29 December and Paul Brady at the end of January. Going from folk legends to Mr UK TikTok in the space of a few weeks is the kind of range most venues can only dream of.

What a Danny G cameo could look like

Picture it. The lights drop. The ring walk music for a fighter nobody over 30 has heard of fades out. And instead of a sober official in a bow tie, in strolls Danny G, headset still around his neck, to give the pre-fight instructions in his own inimitable style. Every clinch becomes content. Every count of ten becomes a debate. The clip of him breaking up the first scrappy exchange is on a million phones before the bell for round two.

Or keep it simple: one appearance in a promo video, staring down the camera and inviting the fighters to “come to Smethwick” instead. Either way, the internet would do the rest.

To be clear, a real fight needs a real, qualified referee, and safety in any combat event matters more than any viral moment. Our dream version has Danny G as the warm-up act and hype man while the professionals do the actual refereeing. Nobody wants a punchline to end in a hospital visit.

Going to Unhinged 003: what we actually know

The official event page lists Saturday 7 November at The Hub, Cillín Hill, Dublin Road, Kilkenny, with doors at 6pm. It is strictly over-18s. Ticket tiers are ringside, ring walk standing and general admission, sold through Eventbrite, and the promoter warns that all sales are final with no refunds. Prices were not displayed when we checked. If you would rather watch from the couch, the show is promised live and free online.

What happens next

With less than a week to go, the published card could still change, as influencer cards often do. If Unhinged or The Hub fancy adding a special guest, our suggestion is on the record. If Danny G is reading this, we have nothing to offer you except our admiration and this article. Until anyone involved says otherwise, this remains firmly in the “wouldn’t it be gas” category. We will update readers if a surprise guest is announced.
