Editorial Standards
Connemara Journal aims to be accurate, fair and transparent. These standards apply to everything we publish.
Accuracy and sourcing
We report facts that can be verified from reputable, named sources: official bodies, courts, Garda and government statements, national and international broadcasters, established newspapers and specialist publications. Every news article ends with a list of the sources used. Where sources disagree, we say so. We do not invent quotes, statistics or events.
Rumour, analysis and opinion
Transfer talk, leaks and unconfirmed reports are always attributed to whoever published them and clearly described as rumour or speculation. Opinion pieces are labelled Opinion and appear in our Opinion section; they argue a point of view but are still grounded in verified facts.
Use of technology and AI
Our newsroom uses AI tools to help research, summarise source material and draft articles. Every story is checked against its sources and reviewed under editorial oversight before and after publication. We never use AI-generated images that could be mistaken for real photographs of real people or events.
Images
We only publish images we are licensed to use, such as Creative Commons photographs from Wikimedia Commons, free-licence photography from Unsplash, official press images and authorised social media embeds, and we credit photographers on every article.
Fairness and privacy
We give people and organisations that are criticised the chance to respond where practical, we report court cases fairly and within the law, and we avoid intruding on private grief or identifying vulnerable people, including children.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it promptly and note significant corrections at the end of the article. To report an error, email editor@connemarajournal.ie with the article link.
Independence
Our editorial decisions are independent of advertisers. Sponsored content, if we ever publish it, will be clearly labelled.
