Def Jam on PS6? The 8 Rappers Fans Are Begging to See in the Ring

Def Jam rumours are back, and the internet is already picking its fighters. Could the legendary hip-hop brawler return on the next PlayStation? Fans are desperate for it, and they have strong opinions about who should be in the ring.

The 8 fighters fans want

1. Eminem: The ultimate main-event entrance. Fans can already hear the walk-on music.
2. Kendrick Lamar: Calm, calculated and the one everyone would be scared to face.
3. Drake: Would the biggest name in the game also be the biggest name on the character select screen?
4. Travis Scott: Pyrotechnics and a stage-sized entrance, because of course.
5. J. Cole: The underdog pick that fans swear would be unbeatable.
6. Kanye West: Love him or not, the debate alone would break the internet.
7. Machine Gun Kelly: A rock-meets-rap brawler built for the ring.
8. 6ix9ine: The loudest entrance imaginable, and a rainbow-braided silhouette fans would spot a mile away.

That is the fan wishlist doing the rounds. None of these artists have been announced for any game.

Why fans think it could happen

• The legacy: Def Jam Vendetta (2003) and Fight for NY (2004) put real rappers in the ring and became cult classics.
• The teases: In 2018 Def Jam Recordings posted a mock-up game box and asked fans who should be on the cover. In 2020 the label hinted at a special announcement, and Ice-T publicly called for a reboot.
• The petitions: Fans have been asking for the series to return for years.
• A new console generation: Every new PlayStation brings comebacks and remakes.

What would a new Def Jam look like?

Think cinematic street fights on next-generation hardware, a create-your-own-fighter mode, online battles and the biggest hits in hip-hop on the soundtrack.

The catch

Here is the honest bit: there has been no official announcement of a new Def Jam game for PS6 or any other console. The teases from 2018 and 2020 never led to a confirmed game that we can find, and viral claims about a ‘Fight for NY Rebirth’ have been debunked. For now it is rumour and fan wishes.
