Whether you are hiding from trick-or-treaters or recovering from a night out, the streaming services have loaded up on scares for the Halloween weekend. Here is our pick of what is new and noteworthy across Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and beyond, plus a few big titles landing next week.

A quick note before you settle in: streaming line-ups differ by country, and several of these recommendations come from UK and US listings. Check your own app before making plans, as some titles may arrive in Ireland later or sit on a different service.

The horror picks

Carrie (Prime Video). Horror specialist Mike Flanagan, the man behind The Haunting of Hill House, has taken on Stephen King’s story of a bullied teenager with telekinetic powers who takes bloody revenge. The Boston Globe rates it among the year’s best horror for Halloween viewing, and Prime Video has already renewed it for a second season, with Flanagan returning as showrunner, TV Guide reported.

Hokum (Disney+). Of particular interest to Irish audiences, this film follows a cantankerous novelist who travels to Ireland to scatter his parents’ ashes, only to be dragged into a supernatural murder mystery. It appears on the Boston Globe’s list of the top horror releases of 2026 to stream this Halloween.

Below (Netflix). Josh Hartnett stars as an iceberg harvester in a Newfoundland town who comes face to face with a deadly sea creature linked to his past. A chilly, atmospheric choice for a dark evening.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (Netflix). Ralph Fiennes returns as Dr Kelson in the latest chapter of the zombie saga, protecting young Spike from a gang leader while forming an unsettling bond with a dangerous infected “Alpha”. The Boston Globe lists it on Netflix; Irish availability should be checked.

Nocturne (Apple TV). Not strictly horror, but a gripping crime thriller for the season. Liev Schreiber plays a soldier-turned-homicide detective who moves his family to a small Pennsylvania town and catches the eye of an imprisoned serial killer, played by Stephen Graham, with Zazie Beetz co-starring. The first two episodes are out, with the rest arriving weekly until 27 November, according to TechRadar.

Something lighter (and a tearjerker)

Last One Laughing: Halloween (Prime Video). Jimmy Carr hosts a spooky special of the comedy endurance contest in which comedians try to make each other laugh while keeping a straight face themselves. The line-up includes Daisy May Cooper, Jack Dee, Reece Shearsmith, Lou Sanders, Phil Wang, Harriet Dyer and Tom Allen.

The One About Matthew Perry (Netflix). This documentary looks back at the life of the actor who played Chandler Bing in Friends, including his long battle with drink and drugs and his death in late 2023, drawing on the testimony of family and close friends, TechRadar reported. Have the tissues ready.

Elsewhere, Dexter: Resurrection returns for a second season on Paramount+, with Dexter Morgan caught between two serial killers while his son Harrison starts out as an NYPD homicide rookie.

If you would rather go out

In Dublin, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra’s Halloween show A Little Fright Music takes place on Saturday night, while the free Trick or Treat Main Street Market runs from 1pm to 5pm daily until Sunday, according to RTÉ’s weekend guide. On television, RTÉ One’s Late Late Show goes full Halloween on Friday night with a special edition.

What happens next

Netflix’s schedule for next week is already stacked. Mike Tyson’s stand-up special Return of the Mike, his first stage show since 2013, and the animated steampunk Western Bass X Machina both land on 3 November. They are followed on 5 November by the second season of the spy thriller Black Doves, with Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw and Sarah Lancashire, and the second season of the comedy North of North. Netflix lists the family film A Dog’s Perfect Christmas, starring Dennis Quaid and Mary Steenburgen, for 4 November, a sign that once the pumpkins are binned, the Christmas content arrives fast.
