CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: FOUR IN 16 MINUTES: PSG rip Villarreal apart as Barcelona sink Aston Villa on wild Champions League night

Paris Saint-Germain produced one of the most ferocious starts the competition has seen on Tuesday night, scoring four goals inside 17 minutes on their way to a 6-0 rout of Villarreal in Spain. The rest of the matchday four Champions League results brought disappointment for Aston Villa, beaten 3-0 by Barcelona, and another statement win for Bayern Munich at Atletico Madrid.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: FOUR IN 16 MINUTES: PSG rip Villarreal apart as Barcelona sink Aston Villa on wild Champions League night

PSG blitz Villarreal

The French side, perfect so far in this season’s league phase, were out of sight almost before the home crowd had settled. João Neves opened the scoring on nine minutes, Désiré Doué added a second three minutes later and Senny Mayulu made it three a minute after that. Fabián Ruiz then struck the fourth just past the 16-minute mark.

According to The Sports Encounter, that was the quickest any side has reached four goals in a Champions League match, beating a record held by Real Madrid, who were four up by the 20th minute against Dinamo Zagreb in November 2011.

Ruiz grabbed his second shortly after the break and was named player of the match by UEFA. The final word went to 17-year-old David Boly, who came off the bench and scored within five minutes of his Champions League debut, as Sports Mole reported. PSG have now won four out of four and have scored 20 goals in the process.

Villa outclassed in Barcelona

Aston Villa were second best for long spells at the home of the Catalan giants. Lamine Yamal fired Barcelona in front early on, and Raphinha struck twice in the second half, once shortly after the restart and again later on, to put the result beyond doubt.

Villa’s defeat leaves them with plenty still to play for in the remaining league-phase games, but it was a reminder of the gap to Europe’s elite.

Champions League results: Bayern, Inter and Galatasaray win

Bayern stayed unbeaten with a 2-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital. Lennart Karl broke the deadlock after the interval, and Konrad Laimer doubled the lead from a Harry Kane assist after Atletico lost the ball. Atletico have now won just one of their four games.

Inter cruised to a 3-0 win at Feyenoord through Yann Bisseck, Francesco Pio Esposito and Piotr Zielinski, leaving the Dutch side pointless after four matches. Aleksey Batrakov scored twice in the space of three minutes early on as Galatasaray beat Stuttgart 2-0 in Istanbul.

Elsewhere, Issa Doumbia’s goal just before the hour gave Sporting Lisbon a 1-0 win at Shakhtar Donetsk, their third win from four games. Kasper Jørgensen scored twice for LASK in a 4-0 thrashing of bottom side Slovan Bratislava, and Lille picked up their first point of the campaign with a goalless draw at Bodø/Glimt.

United’s dramatic comeback

The night’s other headline came at Old Trafford, where Manchester United recovered from 2-0 down to beat Roma 3-2, Bruno Fernandes scoring a retaken penalty before Matheus Cunha netted twice late on and was then sent off.
