Construction of the new Oughterard Sewerage Scheme Plant is to start this month, as part of an overall €4.2 million investment in the area’s sewerage scheme. Works are being carried out by Loughrea company Glan Agua and are expected to take 12 months to complete. Improvements to the system will increase the capacity of the treatment facility to serve the town and surrounding area. The new facility, which will be built on a greenfield site beside the existing plant, will cater for a population of 2,400 compared to the current plant’s 500-person capacity. Minister Kyne welcomed the funding from Irish Water, saying it would have positive effects for locals and visitors to the area.
