West Coast Utd secure U13 league

in Soccer/Top Stories

West Coast Utd under 13s capped another fine season when they captured the Galway FA U13 league title in Kilconly recently.  Trailing Kinvara Utd by two points going into the final game, our lads knew only victory would suffice. Fortunately, they were far superior on the day and a 6-0 win brought scenes of great joy.

Three goals in each half gives an idea of a comfortable success, but in fairness to Kilshanvey they never gave up and kept playing until the final whistle.

The West Coast Utd goal scorers on the day were Eoin Mannion (2), John Davis, Conal Hennessy, Jack Weesjes, and Ronan Mannion.

The win marks a continuation of success for this group, who last season won both league and cup competitions at U12 level. Next season they move to a higher grade and into championship football at U14 level.

They should adjust to a higher level without too much hassle but managers Dave Bann and Rick Weesjes will be looking to strengthen the panel if possible.

The squad received a great welcome back with the trophy and had a reception for family and friends in the Boat House Cafe in Clifden. It was disappointing that no one from the Galway FA was available to present the cup, but at least we could arrange to have the trophy and medals on the day.

The season is now complete for West Coast Utd, and once again all our squads performed to the best of their ability, with special mention to our Youths (under 18) squad, who competed in the Galway premier division. Finishing in the top half of the league and reaching the Jimmy Sullivan Cup semi-final represents good progress for this group.

Next season we expect to be even more competitive in this grade. The West Coast Utd Football Academy, for six- to 11-year-olds, continues to grow year-on-year, and we expect to have huge numbers playing again next September.

As always, we encourage new people to join our club in some capacity.

We always require new coaches, committee members, and fundraisers. Every club needs new blood to stop things becoming stale and repetitive, and we certainly welcome new ideas from everyone within our community.
