Kylemore Abbey has been a busy spot over the last month with visitors from all over the world coming to enjoy the estate. All the rain has meant plenty of growth, which has kept the gardeners on their toes, clipping lawns and verges and nipping any weeds in the bud as soon as they appear.
In the Walled Garden, the second potato harvest is already coming out, with heritage varieties such as Dukes of York, Sharp’s Express and Epicure doing very well this year.
Our staff will be enjoying one of the regular summer vegetable sales in the coming days, and the early potatoes are always a best seller! You can keep up to date with all the Garden News in our Head Gardener’s Diary at www.kylemoreabbey.com.
Two visitors who have had an extended visit this summer are a pair of young mute swans who have become very tame and friendly and are adding to the photo opportunities here at Kylemore – not that we lacked in that department!
Lynn Saoirse’s Irish harp performances in the Gothic Church (pictured right) have been very warmly received. She will be playing at 2 pm every Tuesday until the end of August, so you still have time to hear her play in the magnificent surroundings of the Gothic Church.
Following the launch of our new website last month, our brand new online shop has just been launched this week. We hope you will love the new layout and be sure to go over to www.kylemoreabbey.com/shop for a browse.
While the online shop concentrates on all of our Kylemore Abbey favourites from jams, and chutneys to baking mixes and the chocolates handmade by the Benedictine Nuns, we also have a selection of gifts from some of your favourite brands such as Galway Crystal, Foxford Woollen Mills and Ulster Weavers.
We are giving away a Kylemore Abbey 2017 calendar with every online purchase until the end of August. We are also giving away a Kylemore Country Cream Gift Set (pictured above) to celebrate the launch – visit our Facebook page, KylemoreAbbeyandGarden, where you just have to like and share the post to take part.
In the office, we are already planning ahead for our first-time participation in the National Ploughing Championships in September, so there is never a dull moment.
Be sure to keep us in mind when entertaining visiting family and friends this summer and of course we will all be keeping our fingers crossed for a dry and sunny end to August.
