Oughterard Rugby Football Club (ORFC) has unveiled major new plans for the club’s expansion after its purchase of 11 acres of land at Pier Road. This will enable the club to grow from its existing site on the Clifden Road, which has been its home since 2004. As this was leased land, the club could not seek grant funding to build shower blocks or a clubhouse.
Club secretary Niall Walsh said: ‘By having these new grounds, we envisage the construction of two pitches – one being all-weather – and clubhouse facilities, which will be open to use by other clubs in the area. We ultimately wish to see this development grow into a multi-sport and community facility.’
The club ran a very successful ‘20k Drop’ evening earlier this month as the first event in a major fundraising drive for the new facilities.
