Minister approves funding for 1916 archive

Funding of €180,000 announced earlier this month will enable local authorities across the country to purchase book-stock commemorating 1916 Easter Rising. Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government Simon Coveney said: ‘It is expected that the additional stock will be available in libraries by this October and the public are encouraged to visit their local library to view and borrow the material.

‘There is great demand for 1916 material during this important centenary year, particularly among younger people who are eager to learn about our history and our heritage. It is vital to ensure that everyone has access to material.’
