The second annual Connemara Green Festival takes place this weekend in Letterfrack. With this year’s theme of ‘ecology, food and landscape’, the festival aims to raise awareness of the unique ecology of Connemara, local artisan food and raise funds for biodiversity projects. Running from October 7-9, the weekend includes walks with local ecologists and historians, nature workshops, sea kayaking bird watching, workshops led by Leave no Trace and delicious local artisan food. Kids and adults are all welcome.
The weekend will launch the new Atlantic Waterfall walk, connecting Connemara National Park to the village of Letterfrack and then onto the Atlantic Ocean. Another highlights is the Green Feast on Saturday at 7pm (€40). Starting in the National Park, the six-course tasting menu winds through the village, with guests sampling various organic and locally sourced artisan foods in local establishments. The weekend ends with a guided walk on Cregg Hill farm on the Sunday.
Most of the activities over the weekend are free of charge but some require booking – contact Janet O’Toole on 086 244 5948 or see www.connemaragreenfestival.ie
