Further funding to clear ‘invasive species’ from Corrib

Minister Seán Kyne last week confirmed the decision of Inland Fisheries Ireland to continue funding the programme of managing and removing an invasive plant from Lough Corrib. The decision on August 9 means that funding for the removal of African Pond Weed from the lake will be continued when the current programme expires in October. Minister Kyne said that the funding ‘will help secure the excellent progress achieved at tackling this aggressive, invasive plant species which was discovered in the Corrib over a decade ago’.
