Next Sunday (November 17) will be a busy one for Leenane as the annual Five Mile Run, Jog, Walk, is hosted in the village. Now in its 11th year, the event is organised by the Leenane /Maam branch of the Irish Red Cross. All proceeds raised on the day will go towards  the training of volunteers for the Community First Responders group, first aid training and the upkeep of the eight defibrillators in the area between Maam Cross and Leenane. 

The run starts and finish in Leenane village, with the five-mile route following the upper reaches of Killary Harbour and going through the spectacular horseshoe village of Glanagimla. 

While perfect for serious runners and joggers, the event is also open to anyone who might enjoy this fun activity. 

The race starts at 2 p.m. at the Leenane Community Hall and registration will take place in the Hall from 12 noon onwards. 

There will be refreshments served after the race/ Entry Fee: Runners €15; Family €30 Family.
