’Tis almost the season and we are in full swing preparing for the festivities here in Kylemore Abbey.
Since the time of Mitchell Henry, Christmas has always been a magical time in Kylemore – and this year we have enlisted the wonderful Vivienne O’Grady of Rosewater décor, who will be ably assisted by our onsite Christmas enthusiasts to recreate that atmosphere with beautiful Christmas decorations in the Abbey and across the estate.
The Christmas fun doesn’t stop there though; history talks in the run up to the holiday season will take on a festive feel, allowing visitors to explore how the season has been celebrated throughout the past 300 years. And for our younger guests there will be very special readings of classic Christmas stories every weekend.
Don’t forget to pay us a little visit this festive season – and why not avail of our special Sunday offer of entry to the estate for just €5 when you enjoy a two course Sunday Carvery Lunch, and enjoy the magical Christmas atmosphere!
While you are here, pop into our Craft Shop for some Christmas shopping after a relaxed wander around the estate. Our Craft Shop smells like Santa’s grotto and there are lots of beautiful gifts in store to match it!
If you are on the look-out for that spectacular present for that someone special, look no further. We have beautiful gift hampers with Kylemore produce, pottery, tweed coats and jumpers, dazzling jewellery and much, much more! We gift wrap for free and also ship worldwide.
Every weekend for the winter there is music to be enjoyed in the Gothic Church from 2.30-3.30pm. On Saturdays, harpist Lynn Saoirse fills the venue with beautiful music fitting of the ethereal setting while on Sundays multi-instrumentalists James and Isabelle Ruddy bring some life to your Sunday afternoon with a wide array of tunes.
It was a busy year in Kylemore with the installation and opening of our new visitor experience, From Generation to Generation.
Our staff will soon be enjoying our annual Christmas party which is a well-deserved thank you at the end of a busy year. It is also an opportunity for us to spend some time together outside the work atmosphere – and not to forget the essential Secret Santa hijinks!
We are very appreciative of how very lucky we are to have wonderful support from the local community who send visitors our way, attend events, dine in our café and shop in our craft shop – we couldn’t do it without you!
