A fundraising walk for the Omey Union of Parishes brought walkers to the top of Cashel Hill on a sunny Bank Holiday weekend last month.

Organised by Isobel Marinot Wood, funds raised by ‘The Summiteers’ have been split between ongoing restoration and works in the Omey Parishes and the Clifden branch of St Vincent de Paul.

Isobel said: ‘The walk was kindly led by professional guide Lesley Emin, who took us up Cashel Hill. We were thrilled to have Reverend Elaine Dunne join us also.

‘Our event was one of several, in the area, over the Bank Holiday, and the weather was promised bad. However, we had not a drop of rain, no mist or cloud at the summit, and even had twinkles of sunshine.

‘We were a small group, but it was a lot of fun – great company, laughter, and spectacular 360 degree views of the Twelve Bens, Maam Turks, so many islands and little bays. Not to mention the flora and fauna and a holy well along the way. We may try another walk next summer!’
